Pregnant Woman, Child Crushed To Death By Speeding Trailer In Ebonyi

Abakaliki – It was a moment of tears in Ebonyi state as a pregnant woman and her child were on Wednesday crushed to death by a speeding truck just after four policemen were shot dead by armed bandits in the same area.

The development has thrown the people of the Ndubia community of Izzi local government area of Ebonyi, home of the dead woman and child.

Full identity of of the pregnant woman was yet to be ascertained

It was gathered that the incident occurred when the deceased were on their way to a nearby market to sell cassava to enable her foot the hospital bill of her sick child.

The deceased, a middle-aged woman whose child has been sick for a few days now, had been battling to save the life of the little child thereby making her harvest some of her crops to raise money.

According to an eyewitness, the driver of the trailer who was said to be on a very high speed, could not control the heavy-duty vehicle on sighting the woman.

It was also gathered that the driver, immediately the incident occured ran to a nearby police station to avoid mob action by the angry mob.

Some of the resident of the area, called on relevant authorities to ensure that there are speed bumps in some of the newly constructed roads in the rural areas as most drivers now take advantage of the good road to over speed.

They suggested that construction of speed bumps would go a long way to safe the lives of the rural dwellers who are not yet getting used to the fact that the roads are now major express road.
